Introduction

December 21, 2012: the end date of the sophisticated Long Count Calendar created by the ancient Maya in Central America. Countless books and websites, magazine articles and newspaper headlines debate its meaning, with enthusiasts in two camps: those forecasting apocalypse — the end of time — and those who see a coming renewal, a rebirth of consciousness.

Adding fuel to the debate, some scientists see the increasing number of natural disasters in recent years as evidence of a catastrophic climax of events in 2012.

Will the world really change forever on this date, the end of a 5,125-year calendar last used over a thousand years ago?

Certainly Hollywood would like you to think so. Indeed, a not-so-small industry has arisen around the date, hawking everything from t-shirts to teleseminars and survival supplies.

How much of what we’re hearing is science and how much is superstition?

In 2007 we started making a documentary film to answer precisely these questions, avoiding the hype from the likes of the History Channel and the Hollywood studios.

Two years later we felt we had a truly compelling film, in which the leading researchers, writers and scientists in the field tell us exactly what this date means to them, why it’s important, and what we should expect.

Featured in the film are Graham Hancock, John Major Jenkins, Daniel Pinchbeck, Alberto Villoldo, Anthony Aveni, Robert Bauval, Jim Marrs, Walter Cruttenden, Lawrence E. Joseph, Alonso Mendez, Douglas Rushkoff, John Anthony West and Benito Vegas Duran.

In the course of researching the 2012 phenomenon, we realized that despite the seemingly endless supply of books relating to the topic, none truly captured the broad spectrum of opinion, debate, research and myth regarding the most compelling “end times” prediction of the 21st century.

We asked author Alexandra Bruce to build on the film and create what we believe is a truly insightful, detailed analysis of everything 2012. As she writes in the book,

“The 2012 meme has evolved beyond any debates about the relevance of the Maya Long Count calendar to the lives of contemporary human beings. 2012 is about us on planet Earth at this time.”

Please check out the movie and the book and let us know what you think. Did we interview the right people? Did we cover all the important issues? Did we strike the right balance? We’d love to hear how we could do it better next time, if there is a next time … ;-)

I think it might have made a bit more sense to have this DVD to come out in 2012. Looking at DVDs released so far in 2012 http://www.filmcrave.com/dvd_n... it is kind of clear that not much is being said so far about this year.

Many people still believe that 2012 will be the end of the world...how about you? What if it doesn't end this year? What will you be doing to succeed in 2012? Read Michael Drew's article here...  http://dld.bz/readyfor2012

    To Gary Baddeley ...

I read your invitation at the end of the Foreword to this book (2012 Science or
Superstition) where you invited feedback – I will be specific with mine.

I was quite excited when I accidentally came across Alexandra Bruce's book on
the net.  This find being due to the result of a robot search I have set
up for any new mention of 'Electric Universe'.  I downloaded the book,
which I was very grateful to be allowed to do for free, with the intention of
reviewing it fully, but first I wanted to check out the mention of the EU that
had been detected.  I found this on page 143 and started reading, then quickly
    became somewhat disappointed.  Accordingly,
I hope my finds so far are not an indication of what I might find in the rest
    of the book.

I am an active proponent of the EU model and am currently writing a beginner's
book on that subject area that takes in summary form, the theories involved right
through from fundamental principles to the model's ability to address the
actual origins of our earth and our solar system.  I will use just this activity
of mine as my credentials for making the observations that follow.

I found that pages 143 and 144 are the only locations where mention of the EU is
made.  It is the text I found there and the associated references that I
wish to comment to you about.

    I quote: "The fundamental assertion
of Hannes Alfvén, one of the theory’s main

proponents, is that electromagnetic forces are equal in importance with

gravitation on the largest scales."  This is misleading and inaccurate.
     Misleading because it suggests a
subjective inaccuracy that introduces the notion of scale where it does not have direct relevance, and inaccurate because the forces are most definitely not equal.  Further, this is not as it might be taken, a
quote of Alfvén's.  I invite you to look
some details up in this respect ... i.e. … the electromagnetic force is
    fundamentally 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times more
powerful than that of gravity - i.e. 10^39 times stronger or one thousand,
billion, billion, billion, billion times stronger.  Alfvén was always
extremely careful with what he said.

Also, Alfvén's Nobel Prize was specifically for his work on
megnetohydrodynamics (MHD) so it is misleading to imply that it was awarded for work on
the comparison of electromagnetism and gravity.

The book goes on to mention on page 144 the anomalous temperature profile of
the Sun – this also being fundamental to EU theory.  I quote: “An unsolved problem in classical physics is
an explanation of why the Sun’s surface temperature is 6,000 K, yet high above
the surface in the corona, the temperatures range around 2,000,000 K, seemingly in violation
of the second law of thermodynamics.”
The second law has four qualitative statements associated with it, the
text in the book relates to only one of these, so being as important as it is,
it should be stated in that light.

Across both pages 143 and 144 there are references … 126,
127, 128 and 129 – three of these are inaccurate.  They may have had their URLs correct previously
but now the URLs given should be stated as:

    126 – www.thunderbolts.info

    128 – www.thunderbolts.info

    129 – www.holoscience.com

To Alexandra, personally ... I admire your bravery in tackling such a broad
range of subjects that do indeed deserve linking and a story told about
them.  However, and no offence intended, I do implore you to fully
research your material before writing about these important subjects.  The Electric Universe is so important; we
    must get the message right.

    With respect …

    Hello,

The Maya elders have recently spoken regarding the rising fear around
2012 and the events occuring in the world now. The elders spoke up to
warn humanity and to clear misconceptions, being spread mostly by
non-Mayan self-proclaimed gurus and likes. Many of them do this for
their own personal gain, to exploit the name of the Maya or to spread
fear that the world is going to end in 2012. The Maya did not predict
that. Still, in words of Don Alejandro, elected leader of National
Council of Elders Mayas, Xinca and Garifuna, we are entering times of
great pain if we don't immediately restore the balance to our planet
    (http://www.shiftoftheages.com/....

The Mayan elders also partnered with the California Company, Positive
Purpose Productions, to deliver the message of the Maya to
the world as part of the Shift of the Ages film project. Shift of the
Ages will be their first official discourse to the world. The importance
of the project is even greater as most of the Mayan wisdom in written
form was destroyed during centuries of foreign domination which began
with the inqusition thus making the Shift of the Ages film one of the
very few documents about this wonderful and enigmatic culture. The film
is planned to be released in early 2012, premiering at festivals, with
the mission to bring an empowering vision to the global audience. In
order to complete the final phase of the film and deliver the true
message of the Maya, we kindly ask for your support in our ongoing
    crowdfunding campaign ( http://kck.st/e7rTce ).

On behalf of the Maya we humbly thank you for your support. In case of any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

    All the best,

    Gregor, Shift of the Ages

I'm personally of the opinion that the guy who created the physical calendar in question just got tired of working and didn't pick it back up. Nobody really has a need for a few thousand years of future dates, especially when only eighty or so will be relevant for you; why worry about it when you're set for a hundred generations?

Besides, as someone once pointed out to me, our calendars end every year, but the world's still in existence -- and doesn't seem to be much more enlightened, for that matter.

    2012: Where is safe?

Evidence for 31 events from January to November 2012 each lasting 4 days along 31 latitudes.

----------------------------------------------------1) Prime numbers are the corner stone of public key cryptography used for secret writings and secure communication over the Internet.

    2) The Quran, which literally means "The Readable", is readable despite being encrypted using primalogy (assigning prime values to the Arabic alphabet letters).

    3) Chapter #1 The Opener is The Key to decoding The Message in The Quran. It consists of exactly 7 verses, 29 words and 139 letters. All are prime numbers with prime digit sums too (7 = 7, 2+9 = 11, 1+3+9 = 13) called additive prime numbers. What's more, 729139 and 139297 are also additive prime numbers (7+2+9+1+3+9 = 31).

    4) Chapter #55 The Merciful has 31 repetitions of an exact verse (فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ) at positions: 13, 18, 21, 23, 25, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 45, 47, 49, 51, 53, 55, 57, 59, 61, 63, 65, 67, 69, 71, 73, 75, 77.

    5) The sum of these 31 positions is 1433. A prime number with a prime digit sum (1+4+3+3 = 11) too.

    6) The current Islamic year is 1432 AH (in 2011 AD).

    7) Islamic years have either 354 or 355 days. Next Islamic year 1433 AH is to have 355 days.

    8) Chapter #55 The Merciful has 355 words.

    9) The above sum of the repeated verse positions (1433) thus points to the Islamic year 1433 AH and every word in chapter #55 points to a day in 1433 AH.

    10) The repeated verse consists of 4 words and is repeated 31 times. That implies there would be 31 events each lasting 4 days.

    11) In 4 days, any external event would sweep the Earth along a single latitude 4 times.

    12) The 31 event latitudes are the same as the repeated verse positions (13...77) since they sit exactly in the middle of the range of latitudes (0˚...90˚). From 0 to 13 is 13 and from 77 to 90 is 13 too.

    14) A latitude is about 110km wide so not all places within a danger latitude would be destroyed. Places of worship regardless of religion flavor most likely will be spared to show that we all worship the same ONE GOD, The Creator and Sustainer of all worlds!

    15) The survivors would unite and submit to the Will of GOD and start rebuilding Earth with total love and selflessness guided by the Final Testament, The Quran.

  • Were any of the scientists interpreting "the increasing number of natural disasters in recent years as evidence of a catastrophic climax of events in 2012." able to keep a straight face while doing so?

The end of the long count calendar is no different than the change from 1999 to 19100 was, and a planet massive enough to cause meaningful perturbations to Earth in 2012 should already be perturbing the positions of other planets in their orbits. Personally, I would worry more about preparing for the day when R'lyeh rises from the murky depths and Cthulhu's spawn once more walk among humanity.

I own the book and it is a life changing piece of property. There is alot of information( I'm talkin''bout some real s--t).Discussing my readings with my 'people' was one thing, but actually taking in what you read and literally doing something for our world is something else. It is up to us to actually take the first step, or like it was for me, making sure I stood up tall before I could even begin to think about taking a breath to help me take that first step...I hope you catch my drift. We live in a mavelous and beautiful world and we must be at peace with the world. We must not let the world give for no reason. Let's appreciate and thank the world. It is our world and we must change in order to let 'our world' live. the world must live to give us life!- nivea vanessa

I am a bit dissapointed that no one mentions the real 2012 (the atrological date) has already happened on 23 XII 2007. That is because of a five year mistake in the calendar we use (the mayan calendar was more exact) because when moving the churche's capitol from Rome to Vatican ( during pope's John the !st rule) they skipped a couple thousand of those special years (every four years that february differs one day)
  • Nik Warrensson
The whole idea is stupid crap and I'll be reminding people on 23 December 2012 of the silly nonsense that they talked about 2012.

On the 22 December 2012 I'll be sitting outside in the New Zealand summer sun laughing at the gullible fools that were taken in by this load of utter tripe.
  • Anti-christ
The clue is in the title: Science or Superstition.
But there’s not much sign of science here.
Science is based on empirical evidence, but most people seem to ignore this when expounding their beliefs.

I challenge anybody to present evidence of the existence of this so called Planet X.
Yes, I know the conspiracy theorists will say that all evidence of Niburu has been hushed up by the New World Order, Illuminati, Freemasons, or Girl Scouts. But there are enough amateur astronomers out there with increasingly better and more affordable equipment, and all with access to the web, yet still no hard proof of this mysterious planet.
And bear in mind that a 10 year old girl only recently found a supernova 240 million light years away. Or is everybody with a telescope in on the conspiracy?
Google Planet X or Nibiru and all you get are New Age and Paranormal sites
claiming its existence as ”accepted science”. But I’ve not found a single scientific site confirming that.
One author quoting other authors unsupported statements does not constitute accepted science.
A translation of a 2500 year old text is just that, a translation. Nothing more, nothing less. It doesn’t make the contents of that translation a fact even if the translation is word and concept perfect; therefore any supposition based on that flawed “accepted science” is likely to be even more severely flawed.

Then there are the solar flares. The resultant radiation won’t be any worse than the Solar Max of 1958, so why would it affect human consciousness now?
And what the hell is human consciousness anyhow? And why would it be affected by solar radiation?

And disasters have always happened and always will. That doesn’t signify the end of the world. Sure, there may be more man made disasters due to increased global commercial exploitation, but there’s no evidence of an increase in natural disasters.
Just over a generation ago a major earthquake on the other side of the world might get a 2 inch column in a national paper a couple of days later, making it seem pretty abstract. Whereas today someone with a cell phone is always there, so we get to see it on CNN before the dust settles, and on live full screen HD the tragedy is so much more tangible.
Not so much a case of more disasters, just better reported disasters perhaps?

Belief is not fact people. Belief doesn’t require logic, whereas science demands it.

Dear Human Family: If we write-in Aleister Crowley as president in 2012 in the US (or anywhere there is democracy), we inevitably raise the consciousness of the masses merely by bringing the attention of the people to the "Word of the Law" of this Aeon, "THELEMA", a Greek word that means "will"; it signifies the law of the present age "DO WHAT THOU WILT SHALL BE THE WHOLE OF THE LAW", the nature of which law is further expressed as: "Love is the law, love under will". Beets the hell out of electing some douch-bag puppet of the slave-gods and their barbaric agenda, if you ask me. . . Check out www.ac2012.com for more info. There is no doubt that Graham Hancock has developed what is a kind of cognitive disorder, another 'doomsday scenario' based on ancient calendars and prophesies.
Niels Bohr's adage applies to this kind of delusional mindset: "Prediction is very difficult, especially about the future."
Hancock's book 'Fingerprints of the Gods' (the title aptly summarizes his theory) has many flaws, both as to false premises and lack of logical thinking. According to him, the earth is supposedly about to develop such a huge mass of ice at the poles that its outer layer will 'slip' round and cause a catastrophe and reorientation of the poles. This is amateur science indeed, besides which the ice at both poles is decreasing!
  • Dan Mac
The Mayans had science. But no one who translates their calendar ending to "The End Time" has science. With that said, there are interesting prophesies from the far reaches of the world that seem to point to a time that looks a lot like now. Of course, by now none should need ancient prophecies to predict we are on the threshold of momentous transformation. Just just look to the sky. Look anywhere. Listen. Feel. Sniff the air. Prepare. We are going with the Mayans.

    NATURE IS GOD

I strongly feel nothing but the nature is controlling all the events around us. It gives clues to us, which we can only understand or sometimes others by

deep pshychic abilities. It is important to look into nature and the event at that particular moment to understand its cause and effect. This has been

realized by many in past and they gave it a name superstition because they were not able to find a link between the objects and the cause but can see only

    the effects.

Example: If a person think that wearing blue t-shirt will help to win competition then it is the natures way of telling him and giving him clue of upcoming

event and once he has control to understand it then his confidence will rise and he will definitely win. Nature gives clues to us according to our

subconscious mind understanding..for example 13 is considered unlucky by few and not by others..so nature signals 13 as bad only to those, who believes at

their subconscious level it as bad.

superstitions is the way nature reads your subconscious mind and gives you signals to perform a certain act which may be illogical for others but it only

makes sense to you. This shows a person's more control over understanding his talks at conscious and subconscious levels with nature.

This cannot be measured that in what kind of people superstitions are foud more but it comes true more to the people, whom nature wants to protect and save

more from a hazardous event. So as i saide nature is GOD, it will try to protect you in some way and it will interact with your subconscious level and gives

you signals which you and you may only understand and are illogical for others.

A person is always very confident when he doesn't understand the nature's role in his life and more in unawareness form but as he started realizing nature's

role and impact on him, his confidence gets converted into a faith on some supernatiral powers and that' why we see more wiser people in chirches, temples

and mosques than immature people. A person become superstitions by more awareness of self and nature.

Again a person's thinking of lucky and unlucky is made by nature as i said nature supports few to reach their goals and not all. It doesnot mean that nature

descriminates but it means that it supports the event and not the person but we take as that person is lucky and others are unlcucky but the truth is, it is

the event which important and lucky or unlucky and not the person. For example, if a person wins a race and other person loses it that means that, at the

particular event that is the only thing which is beneficial from all aspects of natures calculation.

You have a pupose for yourself and nature has a purpose for you, when both the purpose matches we call ourselves lucky and if not unlucky but the truth is we

are lucky all the times because natures peupose is more important and for more benefits and is always supersedes our own purpose.

Nature calculates the event based on time and therefore time plays a very very crucial role. Therefore it is said if your time has not come, you will not die

but if it has come, noone can stop you from dying. This effect of has also been realized in all religions and in history. So here i am bound to say that time

is more powerful than nature(god) because is the time which nature reads and cause an effect on you and on an event. Many times man has tried to read this

time accurately but is no easy game and once mastered can beat nature.

More than self affirmation, it is important to try to read your subconscious mind at all levels to understand is functioning and is correlation with the

nature for happy and peaceful life. Therefor many people remain happy in all obstacles because they understand natures cause and effect.

There is no God and wearing 'Lucky' pants may have a psychological boost, but otherwise does no good at all. Nature is an unfeeling force that makes things grow or wither and die. God, Gaia or any other twaddle has no place in a modern world. If there wa such a thing/person as God and he is supposed to be out Father, then he is the epitome of the absent parent. Who would allow their children to play with matches (nuclear weapons) or fight each other in bloody wars (sibling rivalry). A good (God) parent should love & nurture His/Her children & not leave them to run wild.....
  • I just realized that in 2012: Science or Superstition the web bot predicted a "major global coastal event" and think how odd that the oil spill has most definitely been that event. Hm. Its just another weird happening in life I suppose!
  • World Space Organization
Any of us would be delusional to suggest that there won't be disaster happening in the near future. The sun has entered a new stormy stage, says NASA, and global warming, a possible meteorite or planet x passing, and the precession of the equinoxes and galactic alignment may tip the scale. A Crust displacement theory is possible and would turn out world upside down, same with geo-magnetic reversal. Salvation is above, sign the petition for a world space consortium, and open the frontiers of possibility.

seems to me that we will be in alignment with multiple points of astronomical and interdimensional significance. the result may be a magnified reflection of our collective consciousness in this reality and time.

Thanks for your thoughts, n2mystr8jacket ––

That's about as accurate a statement as can be made about December 21, 2012...

    Interview by Tracy R. Twyman.
HRH Prince Nicholas de Vere is author of
The Dragon Legacy: The Secret History of an Ancient Bloodline. "The princedoms of Vere are ancient cultural manifestations of genetic qualities carried in the historical Elven Blood Royal. Established in Angiers in 740 a.d. as a Royal House arising from far older sacral-regal, Pictish, Scythian Vere origins rooted in antiquity, the House of Vere is recorded in a single name and in an unbroken line for over one thousand three hundred years, and consequently is one of the oldest surviving royal dynasties in Europe."

The monarchical system in Britain is, to the greatest extent, impotent, and so if one wanted real political power, the last place one would find it would be on the throne of England. We have no need for thrones or crowns to remind us of who we are.

Just as the work of Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh and Henry Lincoln introduced the study of the "Grail bloodline" to the English-speaking world in the 1980s, so has the work of two individuals redefined the scope of this study in more recent years. But while the better-known Laurence Gardner has received fame, fortune, accolades, and numerous book contracts as a reward for his work, a lesser-known figure has lurked quietly in the shadows up until the present.

As the Sovereign Grand Master of the Imperial and Royal Dragon Court and Order, Prince Nicholas de Vere von Drakenberg provided the inspiration, the research, and a hefty portion of the writing for Gardner's Genesis of the Grail Kings and Realm of the Ring Lords. Yet amazingly, de Vere is not listed as co-author on many editions of Genesis, and receives no credit at all in Ring Lords. Both of these books, credited to Laurence Gardner, are based almost entirely upon the text From Transylvania to Tunbridge Wells, by Nicholas de Vere, recently published by The Book Tree under the title The Dragon Legacy.

But there is much in the original de Vere text that is not to be found in the Gardner version, and there is an authenticity to de Vere's work, derived from the fact that He is the true inheritor and guardian of this tradition - the Dragon tradition, also known as the Grail tradition. De Vere has spent two decades delving into history, mythology, science, religion, and his own family archives to compile what is perhaps the most extensive and insightful text upon this subject ever published. What de Vere has come up with is enough to comprise not just another pop culture craze, but an entirely new theology, with a new philosophy and politics as well.

Clearly de Vere is not out to get rich or be popular, as he has already forgone numerous opportunities to obtain both. Writing about an elite genetic strain of humanity that descends from a super-human race, and which possesses abilities inaccessible to those outside of that strain, is not exactly a ticket to universal adulation. To the contrary, de Vere's assertions regarding the elite status of the Dragon bloodline have branded him completely anathema to the Wiccan and New Age communities who would otherwise be among those most open to his message. Which begs the question: why has He spent the last twenty years of his life on this monumental task?

Note: The Illustrious House of Vere is "The Noblest House Britain has ever seen", according to Burke's Peearge.

Which "scientists" see the evidence of 2012? Please be specific without using weasel words. No REAL scientists do, only pseudoscientists. All, if not most, commercial/for-profit works on 2012 result from those cashing in. Don't be fooled.
  • Jam Handy
I would like to make the following prediction:
in the year 2012, there will be earthquakes, a civil war in Africa, ANOTHER civil war in Asia, several political scandals, and one or more celebrities will die. Also, armies of bovine imbeciles will begin cooking up the NEXT end-of-the-world scenario, to replace the one that DIDN'T come true in 2012.

Fearmongering is method used by the U.S. government to keep the population in control.People who live in fear are easier influenced to believe the government is working in their best interest. However, this makes it easier to forward any agenda;good or bad. WAKE UP SHEEPLE!!!!!!

  • alexandrabruce
In case there is any confusion regarding my book generated by this post, "2012: Science or Superstition" is not a fear-mongering tract. My book is based on the latest scientific findings in astrophysics and geophysics, the debates swirling around same and it looks at global ancient mythologies, which echo the beliefs of the ancient Maya. When these things are seen as connected, as opposed to shizoid, fragmentary factoids, we have the cross-disciplinary science of geomythology, not to mention a deeper appreciation of the Wholeness that is All That Is. As my friend, Laura Knight-Jadczyk likes to say: "Knowledge Protects."
  • Please LISTEN to what I say right now....the only way to understand the Mayan calendar is to use the 260-day TZOLKIN count every day!
These pundits who speculate on the end-date always forget that a calendar is useful EVERYDAY. IF you choose to follow the real traditional 260 day sacred count, then and ONLY then do you have a chance to understand that there will be a massive FLOWERING of consciousness as predicted in the Chilam Balam (Jaguar Prophet) books. Most of those researchers you listed do not have a clue what they are talking about because they only think in linear time like we've been trained since kindergarten. Now grow up and understand that time is more like a SPIRAL that evolves with each cycle - long and short cycles.
  • alexandrabruce
That's very cool. I have a LOT to say about that but I'd rather you tell me more...how do we follow the real traditional T'zolkin, "EVERYDAY"?
Your passion reminds me of Arguelles "Dreamspell" followers –– but you're saying the "traditional" T'zolkin, NOT the "Dreamspell," right?
    Please help us understand, Carlos.
    Thank you,

I did the same with my website http://www.2012endofdays.org (this site needs to be updated, content is about 4 years old). Thanks for the great book, it will serve as a great reference.

  • READING ADVICE FROM THE INFORMATION MANIAC/AUTHOR OF THE COMPANION BOOK TO THE NIMROD EREZ-GARY BADDELEY FILM:

If you're NOT an information maniac, please do NOT attempt to read my book from cover to cover. It's a reference book, not a how-to or a fantasy novel and perhaps we made a boo-boo by not coming right out saying that, off the bat. It's like asking someone to read an encyclopedia from cover to cover. Most people don't want to do that –– except for me and the many appreciators of my book.

My advice to you, if you don't have the mega attention span is to go to the Index of the book, look up the stuff that you're interested in, read that section and then put the book down and move onto your next activity –– unless otherwise gripped to keep reading on.

I took the "Science" part of the title quite seriously and surveyed the latest research about the manifold tangents in several scientific disciplines that spiral out of the 2012 meme. So, if you're into popular science, my book if for you.

I have the opposite of ADHD but it appears that the majority of people are tending towards having a touch of the ADHD, whether they were born that way or not, as a way of coping with the Information Age. Or something. Hell if I know; I'm not one of them.

My companion book to the film, '2012: Science or Superstition' goes somewhat deeper into the content of the film and then goes quite a bit further into certain areas. For example, I take the implications of a foundational book in the worlds of archeology and mythology, "Hamlet's Mill," the first ever to propose that ancient myths are a priestly coded language describing celestial events and knowledge in a pre-scientific epoch.

I take the theories of "Hamlet's Mill" are taken to their ultimate conclusion; connecting historical impact events and the physical craters and lakes that they left behind with a rich legacy of global legends, ranging from the Graeco-Roman, to the Sumerian and the Biblical to the Rig Veda. It's just the tip of the iceberg of getting a handle of who we are and what are we doing on this planet –– or more importantly, what are the cycles of varying degrees of intensity of impact events and how can we avoid some and prepare for others? A lot of this is covered in my book, if this sort of thing piques your interest and this is exactly what the cross-disciplinary, emerging science of geomythology is all about –– and it is utterly fascinating to me and I would hope to others, as well because it truly demonstrates how much we have in common, as human beings on planet Earth.

In the old days, the main purpose of the 'Guinness Book of World Records' was for someone to confirm a fact so they could win their $20 bet. Most people would never read books like 'The Guinness' from cover-to-cover.

Not me -- and infomation-aholics like me (who love my books). I've been reading any and all reference books that I could get my hands on, cover-to-cover (including the Encyclopedia Britannica -- not all of them but around half of our collection because we moved to another country and I had heavy adjustments to make in my new life, in the 4th quarter of 8th grade!)

Basically, I've been reading books like every new edition of the 'Guinness Book,' the Wallechinsky brothers' 'The People's Almanac' and their various 'Book of Lists,' 'The Shark Attack Files,' etc. since I was around seven or eight years old. Nobody ever told me to do this. I simply NEEDED to do this.

Hence, I've wound up writing pop culture reference books, for lack of a better description -- and totally by accident, too. My writing career has been highly unusual. I have never written a manuscript and gone around, asking publishers or anybody else to buy it or option it -- only to later find myself slumped and bawling hopelessly over a stack of rejection letters, in the classic "struggling author tableau."

No. Every single book that I have ever written was something that I was ASKED to write. So, I did. I'm currently 3/4 done with my 7th and the last 6 books I've written will have been produced since 2005, in a 5-year period.

Would I ever have thought about writing the books that I've been asked to write on my own? I don't think so. But people around me knew that I would be capable of writing them, so they asked me if I would and I said, "Sure! that'll be fun! I'll get to learn all kinds of crazy stuff!"

I've since worked with four publishing houses, three books have been for The Disiformation Company, all without an agent. (My first-time co-author on one book did have a bigtime strictly for that one project). The one book missing from Amazon Author's Page is the one I translated from European Portuguese (quite different from Brazilian) into English, which I don't think is very fair: I wrote the English-language version of 'Celestial Secrets: The Hidden History of the Fatima Incident' with original source documents never previously translated into English but there you are...

So, while my books can't help but express something about me, the nature of the non-fiction format has made me be have to make myself somewhat invisible and impartial, even if there are moments when my passionate Brazilian side comes out and I have to make an ascerbic aside about something -- but in general, the goal has been to be as even-handed and as fair as possible; like a reference book or guide is supposed to be.

Well, recently a disgruntled customer posted a very negative review of my book on Amazon, giving it one star, which had the enormously powerful effect of radically lowering my review average and an immediate plummeting of my previously healthy sales on that site.

He said he didn't understand the first 100 pages and gave up but might try again if he gets bored (which is a state of mind that I find impossible to achieve). There are obvious clues about the way his brain works that tell me that he's the type of person who should be reading my book like a reference book - not as a cover-to-cover ordeal, which led me to the realization that we may have marketed it wrongly. Or maybe there's just something wrong with that guy...

I still think facts are fun and I do my best to make them as fun as I can because I'm a party girl and this stuff is great for cocktail party banter. Deck the Halls with astrophysical chit-chat, I say!

But if TMI is not your thing - just look up the factoid/s you're trying to locate in the Index at the back or in Table of Contents and my book will instantly become more fun for all the ADHDers in da house!

    Cheers ––

Why have you not spoken to Maurice Cotterall??? Saltash ,Cornwall, UK. Did he not bring this to our attentions many years ago and why has he as an authority on this subject been dismissed in preference to Graham Hancock? Is the date really correct? Look at Tutatis the date of a NEO, Minor planet centre? Can the predictions be accurate or did the carver of the calander just die or disappear like the rest of the Mayan race, knowing that in Mayan culture your date of birth decided your occupation, was there no one to take the place of the carver? Was the recorder of sun spots remiss on a few occasions and did not count the procession of the equinoxes correctly? So many questions, need to see the film I suppose or has it been doctored to appease the Hollywood money making machine??? Whatever the outcome no-one will really know until 2012 eh!!!

  • Hi to my friends at Disinfo,

I will keep an eye out for the book, if review copies are going out let me have one an I will get an article posted.

Loved the film, it was a shame that when Raymond and Austin (Disinfo Podcast) visited for the film showing over here it attracted so few people. Ah well perhaps next time.

Thanks for the link to my Blog by the way.

As for whether you interviewed the right people, well I did not see myself in the film ha ha

Seriously though you should of had Geoff Stray for sure.

    All the best
  • Hi Bruce, thanks as always for the support, and we love your blog.

The DVD will be out in the UK on November 9th, and hopefully UK iTunes at about the same time. Next time I come to the UK and have a day I'll try to bring a camera and interview you and Geoff for the next film, eh? I am actually English, if you didn't know.

    Very best,

    Gary
  • Wow that would be pretty scary but probably quite an interesting experience. I think Geoff has has a fair amount of experience being interviewed on camera, I might find myself freezing up like a rabbit in headlights!

I did not know you were English. Do you visit friends and family over this side of the water on a regular basis?

By the way i am sorry that in my erratic program of 2012 related work i never completed my intention to e-mail interview you for the article I posted on the 2012 Science or Superstition film production. Perhaps that would make sense to be done alongside the UK release date and a review of the new book.

Glad to hear that my Blog is enjoyed.

    Peace

    Bruce
  • Hi Bruce, yes I'd be pleased to conduct an interview for your blog, and that goes for anyone else with a 2012 site too!

    Gary
  • johnlgillis
    Dear Gary,

Last night, 10/9/09, I discovered Ms. Bruce's book at the legendary Kramerbooks in Washington DC.

I'm a born-and-bred Washingtonian, and I predict that the commentary on Obama's Nobel Prize might even last past this Sunday's op-eds. I wonder who will win the Peace Price in 2013, if there IS a 2013! But seriously, Washington may need to take 2012 seriously, so it might not be a bad idea to approach a few Nobel scientists with all the evidence and see what they think. Their voices stand a greater chance of being heard than many of the 2012ers you interviewed for the film. (Apologies to all.) At the very least, can we find a respectable astrophysicist or two to warn us of solar flares and the short-circuiting of the global grid?

And it goes without saying that We the People(s) also need to be more fully prepared -- for 2012, nuclear Iran, Siberian and polar thaws, the list goes on. I am now completing work on "A Prayer (and Our Resolutions) for the New Decade." Your work reinforces my conviction that the 2010s (twenty-tens) will be the "turning decade," in which the choices we make, or fail to make, will forever affect the world's future, more than any other decade in history.

So, do you think it might be a good idea for the two of us to collaborate? I look forward to your comments and those of any other commentators who don't decapitalize "I"!

    John L. Gillis
  • Thanks John, I love Kramer Books and always visit when in DC. We discovered that virtually all mainstream scientists run a mile when asked about 2012. Believe me, we tried. If you can find one (or more) who will publicly talk about it please let us know.
  • Shaman
I have not checked out the book or the movie. Yet. I can share my dreams. I am Shaman.
Dream 1981 or 1982 I saw a coming time that great cataclysmic events will occur in the future (my lifetime). They would include volcanoes erupting, floods, war and great upheaval of the earth. The sky is red. Something happened. I look around and everyone I know is dead. I am crying because I do not want to be alone. I look in the sky and see beautiful male angels who come down to pick people up and take them to heaven. I want to go with them but they won't let me. I am told I have to stay to help rebuild that there is work to do. I am glad for those who get to go to heaven for they will not have to stay and suffer through what is left of earth but frightened and sad for those left on earth if I can find them for few people are left.
    Dream 2 1991 or 1992 Dec. 2nd.
The warning and the time. I am taken to the sacred stone tablet that is in no physical place in the universe. Inscribed on this stone tablet is a record of all significant events in the universe. Past, present and future. There are so many wondrous things to look at I can hardly constrain myself but I know my time is short and I am going to learn something from it I will have to look at one thing and one thing only then try to figure it out. I decide to look in the 12:00 position. There I see what looks like two numbers 7's. But the stone starts to move and numbers start to move. I look again and the two 7's turn into two ears on a dog. The picture completes and it becomes a dog. A message is written above the sacred stone tablet. It says: "Dog = God = Dog". So I figure it is a puzzle I have to figure out because this is how the dream world works. In symbols and numbers. The Dog is now above the tablet and starts walking around the sacred stone tablet which is in the shape of a circle. The Dog walks walks around it 3 times. It does not complete the 3rd revolution. It stops in the 9:00 position. The message tells me "When the Dog walks round 3 times a significant event will occur". I wonder what this event is. Is it good? Is it bad? I do not know but I sense that it will change the world in a very significant way as only significant events are recorded on this sacred stone tablet.
Dream 3. A pie slice or triangular shaped object appears in the 9:00 position of a wheel briefly. I look at it and it looks like dots. The dots line up in rows one atop the other. They are 4, 3, & 2 = 9 I don't know what it means.

Fast forward to the present. I have been searching for the meaning to these clues and puzzles for 17 years and thanks to the invention of computers and being prodded to visit the library at certain times I have come to a conclusion what these puzzles might mean. I hope others will offer there input.

Dog=God=Dog may refer to Dog Star, Dogon tribe, Sirius, Anubis

Three revolutions around the universe may involve the revolution of the Dog Star and it's relation to another planet with much magnetic interference. It may be a visiting planet which revolves around the entire universe. It is possible that this visiting planet may effect Sirius which may effect earth and cause the cataclysmic events.

Another clue to the timing is the dots. I believe they are geomantic dots and that if you match them to the 9:00 position on a sky chart or Astrological chart you will get a better clue as to the date or time to prepare and watch for this great event that will change earth and it's people forever.

This is all I know for now other then the time is coming soon. It is time to apologize to all those you have wronged. You will not have another chance. It is time to evolve spiritually but to not oppress others with your choice of spirituality or religion. It is time to make peace. It is time to do things for the betterment of humanity and mankind and not for the purpose of aquiring more wealth and resources for your own benefit. It is time to see all others as yourself, equally and not less then. It is time to share your knowledge and your resources and everything you can to lift up and uplift those less fortunate. Most of all to remember that we are not one world so much as we are one people and we have forgotten we are one people. Once we put aside our silly urges to be king of the mountain will we truly all be the mountain. Love one another. That's all. Just that. More will survive whatever is to come if we just do that.

  • D-macdermott
I noticed something you wrote a pie shaped object and the numbers 4,3, & 2 = 9. I noticed something play with the numbers and you get the pie= pi and then flip the 2 so it looks like a 5 and the equal sign are 2 ones. Now arrange them and you get 3.14159 which is pi to 6 digits. Also you said the stone was a circle. Just noticed this and thought I should point it out.
  • The wiz
Also if you multiply the 4 and 3 and then kind of tilt your head so the & sign looks like an 8, with the trailing 2 thats 82, multiply that too.(=984)
Now tilt your head the other way and the equals sign looks almost like a division sign, so divide by 9 and multiply by the number of rows in your reply (5).
Then multiply 4 and 3 again, now the & character can be attached at the end looking like a 0, thus forming the number 120. Add this to our previous number round it down and we end up with 666, coincidence.......
  • shxed
It's "may AFFECT Sirius which may AFFECT earth", not 'effect'.
Sorry, I always see this mistake even in research papers of my colleagues.
    It's horrible.
  • Stuck_zombie
i don't know if this is relevant, but are the mayan words for effect and affect as close in pronunciation as the english? i doubt it. If anything, it is a translation error, not a shaman's lack of knowledge of language. They predicted the end of a solar cycle somewhere around two thousand years after their demise...
  • Nik Warrensson
"They predicted the end of a solar cycle somewhere around two thousand years after their demise..."

    But...but...they didn't predict their own demise...cough...
  • alexandrabruce
This is what Oxford English Dictionary says:

    affect1

    /fekt/

    • verb 1 make a difference to; have an effect on. 2 touch the feelings of.

    — DERIVATIVES affecting adjective.

    — USAGE Affect and effect are frequently confused. Affect is primarily a verb meaning ‘make a difference to’, as in the changes will affect everyone. Effect is used both as a noun meaning ‘a result’ (e.g. the substance has a pain-killing effect) and as a verb meaning ‘bring about (a result)’, as in she effected a cost-cutting exercise.

    — ORIGIN Latin afficere ‘affect’.
